Sydney University Wind Orchestra Presents Aurora Awakes

Sydney University Wind Orchestra is proud to announce our semester two major concert- Aurora Awakes.

This November SUWO celebrates its 10th anniversary by taking band and audience alike on a journey, exploring the musical themes of light and colour. The concert's titular piece- Aurora Awakes by John Mackey is an inspiring work invoking the Roman goddess of the dawn, Aurora- heralding of the coming of light. Exhilarating and challenging it evokes imagery of vibrant flashes of light. From a place of remarkable stillness to an unbridled explosion of energy — from darkness to light, placid grey to startling rainbows of colour.

The concert will also feature a wide variety of music including John Mackey's exuberant march Xerxes, Eric Whitacre's Lux Aurumque, Charles R.Young's Tempered Steel, Percy Grainger's Children's March and by popular demand John Williams' Star Wars, arranged by our very own Musical Director Steven Capaldo.
