This young man is singing the truth and the world is responding in an awesome way.The first time I heard this song it brought this 71 year old Marine to tears and hearing it again it still brings me to tears.

He's had no formal training. This is raw, authentic and heartfelt.

The fact that your eyes are opened and you see what Oliver is singing about earned you a sub. Thank you for being able and willing to see the truth in the world.

People claim he's either fat shaming of welfare shaming, but he's (like you rightly stated) calling out abuse of welfare, which is abuse of taxpayer's $$$. You're spot on. Lastly, they say if you favor yellow as a color, that means you're a positive, creative, inquisitive (learner), friendly, and spiritual person.

Good singers sing from their gut. Great singers sing from their heart.

I like the fact that you stopped explaining his vocal technique and started talking about the truth and power of the lyrics . This song has touched everyone

Tara, I wish there was a ❤ button instead of a 👍 for you breaking down the truths in the song for people

He had only been recording songs with his cell phone or performing for friends or crowds of like 20 people. Radio WV liked what he was about and helped him record a couple of songs using actual cameras and microphones. That's why it was initially released on radiowv, probably to also reach more people.

Good for your reacting to this song Tara. ❤ don’t apologize for the truth

In my opinion. What Oliver Anthony is saying, is more important than how he technically sings it. Thank you for a great review.

They think he's fat shaming, but he's simply saying that working peoples tax dollars that are paying for people's welfare shouldn't be used for junk food

My husband showed me this song when it first went viral, and it makes me emotional every time. His voice is so raw, and the lyrics so real, it just makes me want to bawl.

I enjoy this song, I feel like he has an almost older sounding singing voice like you could find possibly in 50’s? He definitely has a voice that isn’t typical and he sings it great. Glad he’s speaking the truth. We all need to speak more truth.

Truth is an enemy of so many these days. Thank you for boldly speaking the truth about the performance and the lyrics.

I've been waiting for Tara to react to this song since the first time I heard it. It's been stuck in my head for weeks now. It's such a good song lyrically of course. But also the melody is so catchy😂 My mom and I can't stop singing it

If you read what he has written after the songs success he details that he and his pal at RadioWV recorded this song with a "real" microphone sort of as a lark, thinking/hoping they would garner maybe 300, 000 views for RadioWV. Then it took off. Most of the other songs he had posted on his channel previously were recorded live with just his cell phone. His 2 newest songs since Rich Men North of Richmond were recorded in the same more professional fashion, all on his property.

I am so happy to hear you stand up for the truth!! It is so refreshing in this Orwellian novel we are living in.

One of the best breakdowns of this song I've seen on YouTube, and I've seen HUNDREDS. Well done!

This is of a genre that seemed to be almost dead: the protest song. For other great songs in that genre, see almost everything done by Bob Dylan did back in the 60's, Barry McGuires's very famous "Eve of Destruction" from 1965, and closer to home, Bruce Hornsby & The Range - "The Way It Is", the most beautiful protest song ever written, from 1986.

Thanks again for an outstanding reaction video!

This is mountain folk music and a part of the enunciation for speaking and singing in that area of Appalachia is to put an “H” sound at the beginning of a lot of words. My family is from there and they all speak and sing like that.
