Singapore Airlines: As Good as People Say? Airbus A380 (Economy) Trip Report | LHR - SIN

Today I'm reviewing the 13 hour flight from London Heathrow to Singapore Changi on Singapore Airlines famous Airbus A380 in Economy Class. Singapore Airlines are consistently ranked among the best airlines in the world, so today I'm putting that to the test.

The cost for the multi-city trip (London to Hanoi via Singapore, then Ho Chi Minh City to London via Singapore) cost a reasonable £870 ($1,075) for the Economy Standard Fare. Considering Singapore Airlines' high level of service this actually worked out being one of the cheaper options. Emirates for example would have cost over £1,000 at the time of booking.

LHR - SIN's food is served by caterers from London, so this isn't so much on SQ, its on the caterers at London. Same for Frankfurt. Those regulars flying out of Frankfurt can attest to the atrocious food that they serve to airlines flying from FRA

Yeah i have A380 on 3 of my 4 flights, and on all 3 i snagged 71A with the extra legroom and access, did cost a bit extra as you say, but on 13hour then a full 24hour return (2 flights) it will definitely be worth it. Thanks for uploading 👍

From pre pandemic I've been an avid supporter and flyer of Singapore Airlines going back over 25 years. Recently I heard from a friend that her experience flying Perth to Penang was not good particularly in the food and drink department - no longer a "Great way to fly". Hence the reason for me searching for the review. She also mentioned the high price which should have covered better service. The logic being I might get much better service at a much cheaper price with other airlines for the long haul trips to Europe.

Surely the food is limited to the airport you fly from and whatever the caterer supplies. Flying Changi to LHR last year I thought the food was pretty good although I never set my expectations too high. The only downside to the food was my wife's fare which was pretty dismal as I'd somehow managed to order her vegan meals for every flight to and from NZ, this was the same for all airlines we travelled with, BA, AirNZ and Singapore.

Nice flight video of Singapore Airlines. Singapore Airlines is the best Airlines in the world. And the top safest Airlines as well. As correction the video itself shows When you land at Singapore Changi you can see how amazing it is! I'm planning to film SG Flight next year for my channel! Thanks for the review video!

SQ has been on full cost cutting mode over the past few years in economy

Just a reminder of what has been eliminated in Economy class over the past few years

- no more amenity kit pouches
- no more printed menus
- no more appetisers
- no more hot towels
- less quality mains

Great Video! I am looking to fly to Brunei via Singapore on the A380. Upon reaching Changi, was 1.5 hours enough time to catch your connecting flight to Hanoi? I have not done that before and might be in the same position, however, it would be in the same terminal.

Thanks for sharing your experience
I really miss the pre-covid SQ, where they will give you hot towels and menu cards in Economy Class. Even the meal portions were more generous (with an appetiser and dessert) compared to now on shorter flights.

I recently flew with them a week ago and I honestly starting to dislike the food selection they offer. I really think they have to step it up again like it used to.

I have flown many times on SQ between LHR and MNL and the food service has always been good except for the last occasion when the meat sold out so I was offered only the fish option which I rejected due to a seafood allergy. Instead of getting me one from business or Premium economy, they made me feel guilty by saying they got one which was going to be for a crew member. However, my general opinion of SQ remains very high.

I flew Singapore - Frankfurt on A350 in their premium economy a few days back. I had very high hopes, but my heart sank when I as a first person to use the loo after take off saw the floor was wet and sticky and toilet seat was unclean. Food was great, as flight was out of Singapore but drinks were just average and service was very slow by premium economy standards. I was left almost starved on Osaka Singapore route earlier, but I understood that it's because catering in Osaka is probably to blame. Unclean toilets from the main hub is kind of disappointing and unexpected.

Flying to Bancok via Singapore next Saturday. I think I might bring snacks from duty free to keep me going. It’s a long journey and I love my food😃

Have you travelled with the Airbus A350-900 to Singapore, yet? I came home from Singapore last week and it was a great flight. Departed from Copenhagen airport Kastrup the 3rd of June on board a Singapore Airlines A350-900 flight towards Singapore. A nonstop flight and I hadn’t been on an airplane for 30 years. Unfortunately, I have to go to Frankfurt or London to be able to travel with an Airbus A380 from Singapore Airlines. But my dream is flying on that huge plane.

Having just returned to the UK with Singapore Airlines I totally agree on the food front. Outbound in Economy the food was dreadful but we did come back Premium Economy and it was was better. The staff both ways were great although our seats on the return journey were right by the staff lockers and they were constantly being opened and we got to know their perfume quite well! Overall. loved the experience and better than BA for sure.
