Join me for a walk around the centre of one of the greatest historic mill towns in Lancashire: Burnley! Once one of the foremost centres of industry in the world, this lively town rose from a mere few farmhouses to become the major urban hub we know today, and is still full of history from its heyday.

On our walk around Burnley, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Burnley Magistrates' Court, Burnley Library, Burnley Peace Garden, Burnley Miners' Memorial, Place de Vitry-sur-Seine (Town Square), Looking to the Future sculpture, Burnley War Memorial, The Boot Inn, The White Lion pub, Charter Walk shopping centre, The Swan pub, Burnley Lock-Up, the old Red Lion Hotel, Burnley Mechanics, Burnley Town Hall, Burnley Technical School, Burnley Police Station, Burnley Central Stores, the River Calder, The Corkhouse, and Hammerton Street.

Good evening! Thank you so much for helping the channel to over 8, 200 subscribers - I really hope you enjoy this evening's walk around Burnley, filmed back in the spring on a lovely sunny day!

There's a lot of history to be found in Burnley, but one thing that we didn't talk about on our walk was the town's historic football club, Burnley FC. Founded in 1882, Burnley are among the oldest teams in Britain, and have played their games at Turf Moor stadium to the east of the town centre since 1883, making the stadium the second longest-continuously used professional football stadium in England, after Deepdale in Preston to the west!

I spent my childhood and adulthood in Burnley and have recently had to move away and I loved this video just gave me a sense of happiness and sadness on how much I’m missing the place. Didn’t know some of these historic facts so it was an eye opener. Thank you

Great video. Loved it. Burnley is what I would call a ‘grand town’. The architecture to me of equal value to anything the Romans left.

I can see why the people of Burnley hold a real sense of pride for their town.

I became fascinated by Burnley in the 1980’s. Supporting Carlisle I was aware of their football teams massive fan base. Their lowly league position made this only more intriguing.

It was this kind of fascination that moved me to study geography. The rise, falll and rise again of a place like Burnley helps understand our own culture and sense of place.

Fantastic work and captured on a great day to show case what a fine town Burnley looks.

Thanks for posting

Really enjoyed this, my family goes back hundreds of years in burnley . One half came over from Cork during the potato famine and my other half are burnley through and through. My grandad was working as a miner during the Hapton valley pit disaster and was part of the rescue crew, he was never the same mentally and suffered what we now know as PTSD

So beautiful. They also have a remarkable Weavers Triangle complex of awesome mills with a museum, shops and restaurants by the canal. Those once industrial hubs are today learning hubs, with so many universities and colleges spread all over not only Lancs but the whole UK. Your production skills and enlightening explanation of local history are unbeatable. Thank you. Let's walk!

Thank you for walking me around a town I know well (on paper only) as I have been transcribing the 1891 Census for Burnley as a volunteer on behalf of FreeUKGenealogy for the past three years. My parents were born there before the first World War but I have never been and your 'tour' brought so much to life. Loved it!!
