The DCT470 is 2 separate 3 speed manual transmissions in one housing that pre selects the next gear by throttle position, brake position and RPM momemtum and changes gears using 2 separate hydroelectronically controlled CLUTCHES, not a torque convertor on an automatic transmission. Every MR video on Youtube is peppered with comments saying "why auto" or "5 speed is better" but the reality of it is that the TC-SST was the pinnacle of the Evo X and there isn't one situation where pushing a clutch in manually and shifting manually is better. On the same track, the MR beats the GSR by 1 sec or more and that is just cold, hard facts kids. A GSR runs at 90 mph @ 3800 RPM, the MR at the same speed runs at 3200 RPM. There are no situations that the 5 speed is better other than the cost of ownership, which is subjective.

Got to love this old battle. Now Subaru needs to step it up with the Ford Focus RS and Audi RS3 being such awesome contenders.

It's too bad that a company as massive as Mitsubishi can't manage to build anything interesting.. The Evo was definitely an achievement, but I can't help but think they could have done better.
Considering how little R&D time they seemed to spend on the rest of their line

Mitsubishi pushed the dual-clutch automatic gearbox so hard, lots of people didn't know the Evo X came with anything else. And I really felt like I had *settled* when I got mine with a 5-speed.

The more I hear from dual-clutch owners and see videos like this, the more I like my 5-speed.

The people who play with these things, tell me the Scooby-doo is a fairly nice car when you turn up the boost a bit, but the EVO-10 is a work of art. As standard cars, they're fairly close, but if you spend the same ten grand (or eight or whatever) on go fast stuff, particularly if you mostly just up the boost, the EVO is an absolute gem. You can double the hp and it continues to work exactly the same as the standard car. If you think that's normal for tuned cars (or bikes) then you haven't done much tuning....
