In this episode we run through the s2000 after a massive fire .
We went to set the car up for the day and we’re gonna adjust the fuel pressure but to do so we need to start it up. While we cranked the engine, it back fired . The flame traveled out of the blow off valve and into the vent of the fuel tank. Causing the car to burn. The team got the fire out and the Car is now on the lift and we go through the damage.

I’m very Grateful things weren’t worse and everyone here was ok. I feel we should be able to get the car back up pretty quick . You all have been amazing, we appreciate the support so much. I think i’m just more determined to get back to it and get it worked out.

Crazy how building these cars can end up teaching us the most valuable of life lessons. Patience, perseverance, heartbreak, pure joy, and gettin knocked down so you can get back up. Brent, I’ve got infinite respect for you and your teams dedication and the example you set for those boys. I’m stoked it was just minor damage, but in the end it turns out being about so much more than just the cars. The value is in the process and this setback is just gonna make the finish line that much more sweet! Keep yer head up and yer hands dirty. You’ll be rippin in no time!

It totally sucks that this happened but you all were extremely lucky that no one was injured, the shop was not damaged, and the damage to Sho’Nuff was worse than it is. In a strange way you all were lucky this most unfortunate event happened at the shop where you had fire extinguishers and water. I have seen several cars, trailers, and tow rigs get burned up at the track as a result of crowded tight pits combined with people frozen like deer looking into headlights rather than grabbing the fire extinguisher out of their truck or trailer and lending a hand putting out the fire. That all said the best thing you can do for Sho’Nuff was doing what you did is washing off the dry chemical fire extinguisher residue. I highly recommend you give Sho’Nuff another good bath.
It sounds as if you guys are also using this incident as a learning experience for just in case there is a next time. Besides adding more or bigger/better fire extinguishers and a hose for methanol based fires and something to quickly cut the straps holding the car down might I recommend you not store any unnecessary fuel or other flammable chemicals of any sort near the dyno. I know that might be a pain in the butt however just think of the consequences of not doing that. Additionally no one should ever park in front of either Dyno Bay just incase you have to push a burning car outside. Lastly comes how do you prevent something like this from happening again and the best thing I can think of is to always blow the engine compartment out or run a fan before crank on a car to avoid having a pocket of fumes build up and be ignited by a backfire, or some other flame or heat source. Myself I have had a small engine bay fire several years back due to a fuel leak that I had fixed the night before and had thought all of the gasoline that has leaked has evaporated overnight. That night was cold and the thermostat in the shop was set to 40 degrees and the heater was running when I opened my shop that morning. As my usual I cranked the heat to warm the shop up had a cup of coffee and called customers etc. Anyway the warming of the shop by cranking the heat up got the residual fuel to start vaporizing again and I lit a hand held Map-Gas torch to put a little heat on a crusty O2 sensor which ignited the fuel vapors that were in the frame rail of the car which in turn singed my beard, hair, and the hair on my right hand/forearm. Luckily I was wearing my eye glasses which also are safety glasses so my eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows did not singed. The damage to car fortunately only a little bit of burned paint in the engine compartment and burnt wires and heater hoses.
One last thing when you reinstall the fuel cell have you thought about relocating or extending the vent for the fuel cell to get it farther away from the turbo

I feel like Jeremy would say adapt and overcome - like you need more of that with all the other crap you have going on - but you will overcome this. With your attitude, and the teams attitudes you will get you through this. Car will be better than ever in no time. Your positivity is infectious and will spread faster than the fire! Keep up the good work!!

This is what makes Brent and the PFI family so great. It is super easy to be positive when everything is going right, but they all keep that same energy when everything has gone wrong.
Shoutout to Brittany for being on top of getting the extinguishers serviced too btw

Now is the time to use our connections to help Brent in any way, if y'all know anyone who can help supply parts etc. Let's get Brent racing with his baby. Super sad to see, but it's not about how many times you get knocked down, it's how many times you get back up. Stay strong PFI we will get through this!

First, I'm super happy that everyone is good and that the damage isn't as bad as I expected after the previous video.

I understand the whole hindsight is 20/20 thing but I truly believe that accidents create the best learning opportunities. So if there's an easy way to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future, the whole aftermarket / race car scene should probably agree as a group to implement that solution on all their race cars.

Maybe there's a better solution out there but I believe that a simple flash arrestor in the fuel tank vent would have prevented this fire. The crazy thing is, I've never heard of anyone building a flash arrestor into their aftermarket fuel system so I'm not saying you should have done this.

The problem with preventative safety is that when it works, nothing happens. So no one even knows that a catastrophe was just averted.

I crashed my turbo Civic a couple years ago doing dumb stuff, and having to look at my messed up car in my garage, and having to drag myself out there to go fix it was so mentally difficult... I can only imagine how difficult this is for you. I wish you all the best Brent & team, you guys rock and will bounce back from this better than ever. Much love! <3
