Shoulder pain can be a tricky thing to tackle. But, there are fundamental things to understand when you want to build strong, mobile, and stable shoulders.

First, the ribcage is the foundation of the shoulder girdle. Second, the scapula must be able to move around one the ribcage. Third, how well the shoulder rotates is crucial.

Finding exercises like this arm bar variation successfully address all three of these shoulder health keys.

The rolling action really helps open up the air flow through the ribcage, stabilizing the foundation from the inside out. The stable position of the arm allows for the ribcage to move beneath the scapula and creates mobility of this structure and ALL the muscles attached to it. Lastly, as the scapula is being mobilized the rotator cuff is working its different muscles to create a stable environment between the humerus and the scapula. This stability allows rotation to be gained and maintained through the shoulder joint.

So don’t go through a litany of movements for a single area. Pick a single movement that works to heal many areas of the body!
