In this video we'll look at the Heathkit GR-91 General Coverage Shortwave Receiver. I'll review the history of the radio, it's features, and take a look at it inside and out. I'll discuss the restoration of this particular unit and demonstrate it being operated.

My first Heathkit when I was around 12 years old. It was my only Christmas present that year, you had to order by snail mail by sending in a completed order form and check. You then waited for a post card that would be sent with a date the unit would ship and in about two weeks it arrived. Still have the radio after 58 years and it;s almost in pristine condition. Spent many hours listening to shortwave and amateur radio stations. Thanks for the review.

I owned this model as a novice/tecnician class in 1964. WN4SJQ/WA4SJQ. I used it with an Ameco AC1 transmitter for cw. It sold for $19.95 as a kit. I did have the Q- multiplier which greatly helped selectivity. Later I used it with several homebre transmitters.

Thanks for the video. I just got one from a friend and I'm going to see if I can get it up and running. The video was a great introduction to the radio. Very much appreciated! Well done.

Great presentation as always Jeff. I find it strange that the gr81 seems to sell at higher prices on eBay than the more expensive counterparts that were in your catalog except maybe for the Mohican.

I built one of these in the 1950s, then later added a Heathkit "Q-Multiplier."
