This video shows how to solve for the area of the overlapping shape surrounded by a quarter circle and a semicircle in a square.

The key to the question is to figure out the areas of the regular shapes that can be calculated so we can get the area of the irregular shape from the regular shapes.

Construct line segments to get the regular shapes. Sectors and triangles can be formed by constructing line segments.

So it's possible to get the areas of the sectors and triangles, then the overlapping shape can be calculated from the areas of the sectors and triangles.

This technique is widely used in Geometry Problems to figure out the area of the overlapping shapes. It's convenient to get regular shapes by constructing line segments subtly. Therefore the area of the irregular shape can be calculated from the areas of the regular shapes.
