This song really hits hard for me. When I was younger, I didn't really have to many friends, so the only ones I had were stuffed animals. And I wanted to be a teenager so bad, but my parents told me not to rush growing up. But I didn't listen. I had the most fun times with my stuffed animals, I thought it would be even more fun as a teen. But it wasn't now the only thing I want to do now is go back to that age.
So a reminder to anyone that's reading this that's still young:
Don't force yourself to grow up, trust me, you're much better staying younger for now. And yes, I know we must all grow up at one point. But don't rush yourself.

I interpret this song as a person that suffered from schizofrenia their whole childhood, and used to think that "trees talking to them" was normal. They got a kinda late diagnostic and then started taking meds and seeing things as they rly are: "now I know what's real and what's fake". Also, they were seen as the weird kid, and had a lonely childhood. As a teenager, since they weren't used to seeing things as they really are, they start having crazy thoughts like "are we from outer space?" and getting crazy over these thoughts. Also, they realize they lost their whole childhood in loneliness, since their "friends" (like, the trees that talked to them) weren't real. And they develop childish manners and an obsession over "becoming a kid again"
