The formula for calculating the amount of money in an account that is invested using simple interest is A=P(1+rt). This formula (or literal equation) is solved for t using two different methods. In the first method, P is distributed into the parentheses (1+rt). Then the Prt term is isolated before t is obtained by dividing both sides of the equation by Pr. In the second method, both sides of the equation are divided by P. Then the rt term is isolated before t is obtained by dividing both sides by r. Unfortunately this requires a complex fraction to be simplified.
