Rescued Seal Won't Leave Rescue Net

What seems to be a cute interaction with one of our rescued seals is a sad reminder of how traumatizing and terrifying a rescue is for the animal. The entanglement is fresh and has not caused any injury. The rescuers are not even forced to hurt the animal by pulling a piece of rope for fishing line out of the seal's flesh. But for the animal, the quick grab-and-cut rescue has left such a massive mark that he cannot move for a full minute, even after the zippers have been opened up for him. 🦭

The difference between Cape Cross and the Point seals is something else. At the beginning, those guys looked more perturbed than frightened at Naude and Denzil for walking into their “clubhouse” Nice job gentleman!

looks like you made a new friend. after getting that rope cut off, the seal decides he 's enjoying laying inside the open net and chills out for a minute, then decides he wants to hang out with his friends closer to the water. great save👍👍
