Fraction basics ( Parts of a whole )
This is an introductory lesson on fractions.
A fraction is a part of a whole.
For example, an apple can be cut into slices. Each slice is a part of the whole apple.
What does the fraction 2/4 tell us?
The top number (2) is the numerator. It tells you how many parts of the whole you have.
The bottom number is the denominator (4) and tells you how many pieces the whole is divided into.
Some examples of fractions include 1/2 or 1/4, or 3/5
