As a navy veteran who was a hull tech (plumbers) stationed on both cvn 71 and cvn 73 both aircraft carriers I’ve never seen a urinal on a ship

14 years in the coast guard and none of our ships have urinals. Seriously, not a single one. I never thought that not pissing all over myself was a some sort of skill. Way to go Navy...

USS Nimitz didn't have urinals either. I asked once and was told "Why do you want two things to clean?"

The fact that they havent figured out the mystical and cheap technology found in nearly every porta john everywhere allowing a single stall to have both a urinal for speed and ease of use along with a regular toilet is disapointing.

It isn’t a matter of being gender neutral. I didn’t see one urinal on any carrier in my entire 26 years in the navy. They are just too high maintenance while using sea water to flush.

As someone who was in the navy for twenty years and repaired navy ships for another 20+, the reason urinals went away is they are hard to clean, calcium builds up in the drain systems, and they usually smell bad. Had very little to do with gender neutral bathrooms.

All urinals were removed in the early 2000s from all aircraft carriers. The salt water flush system and associated mineral build up and clogging made them too maintenance intensive to be worth the trouble. The difference on the Ford is the vacuum pressure system.

here in norway we are just advised to sit, as in waves, you will miss anyways
