In this video I rip a 1981 Topps Football Rack pack after taking a survey from my audience. We are searching for the very valuable Joe Montana Rookie Card which could be in the first cell of this rack.
Enjoy!

1982 was first time they could use logos

I loved these in baseball packs in the 70s. You could find your favorite cards if you were lucky before buying.

Shoulda coulda woulda

Authentic is the only word in existence which is more real than the water we drink, the soil we walk on, the air we breathe. We owe our entire world to the word authentic, which of course even THAT isnt as real as the word authentic.

You aren't the first soul Steve DeBerg has crushed!

Fun video to watch, hoping to see that Montana was pretty suspenseful at the end haha.

Topps did not have NFL Properties rights from 1970 to 1981. They paid for the license again starting with the 1982 set.

Thanks for the shout out my friend! All the dissenters out there unite, LOL. Seriously, that was a lot of fun. I loved Billy Sims, and he was the card I was always looking for when I opened those packs when I was nine. I also bet you Walter Payton made Reavy Sorey an All-Pro. Great rack break, really enjoyed it.

That damn Steve DeBerg is plentiful, I've pulled 10 times more of those than Montana's, and the DeBergs were always gem mint, smh

So much fun, and generous of you to share. Thank you! For me the Dorsett and Harris cards are fantastic. Congrats on those!

Pete Rozelle the commissioner
had all the logo's copyrighted
and would charge for their usage.
Topps got around that and had photo's
w/o helmets and action shots airbrushed. Loved the rip!!!

Decent pack for a Steelers fan. Too bad money gets in the way of perceiving value of memories.

Someone may have given the answer already, but the reason Topps did not use logos at that time (1981) was because they simply did not have the License. They had a NFLPA License at the time, but not the NFL. Topps did originally have it to begin with, but somehow lost it in early 70's probably due to how cheap the cards were, and the NFL probably wanted higher standards. Or Topps just didn't want to pay the extra expense and save $$ as football cards were cheaply made, and not selling at the time. When they started selling again and appearing in more stores and RCs like Montana gave new life to collecting, Topps got the license back in 1982. But then lost it again in 1990 lol (again probably as a result of mass producing and lower standards), but ended up getting it back in 1991. Then in 2016 Panini bribed the Execs at the NFL to take the License away from Topps and give it to Panini.

Yeah, so I believe Fleer had the NFL rights for a LONG time! Nice break, love it!

Those miscut cards are killer, but quality control back then was terrible. Great suspense in the last sleeve. Thanks for posting. Good stuff as always!

Cool rack pack rip. I pulled a Montana a few years ago and it was severely off centered, had printing dots, and in my opinion not worth grading. Fun video to watch.

There is a way to search rack packs without opening. Unfortunately people have been doing it for years
