Hello sister-how are you? Just have a quick question ~I have been wondering for awhile- in fact, ever since I was a child, what does it mean to pray in the Spirit?
I hear that it means that we are to pray in tongues, but I’m wondering- could it be something more deeper~

Here’s the verse from Ephesians 6 I believe the Holy Spirit keeps leading me to

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

This verse is a part of putting on the Armor of God. But I’m still wondering how it relates to speaking in tongues. Now, I know that one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues, but Paul tells us that not all believers have the same gifts. We’re also told that the Holy Spirit makes intercession in utterances for us when we don’t know what to pray, but that couldn’t correlate to speaking in tongues because Paul tells us that if you speak in tongues, there needs to be an interpreter, which the gift of interpretation of tongues is another gift of the Holy Spirit.

So, I’m thinking that Praying in the Spirit falls more on the line of- being available to the Holy Spirit -being available to pray (make intercession) in real time. Sort of like working in sync with God as He works. For example, have you ever felt a nudge to pray about something or pray for someone and then hours later, you hear that a person you prayed for avoided an accident. Let me give you a personal example. A couple of weeks back, the Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit and mind, and told me to pray against human trafficking- I prayed every day for a whole week. The next week, the people in my community began to post on Ring Neighbor to be careful because some strangers in vans and pickup trucks were going around the neighborhood trying to snatch their kids off the street and even their own driveways. They posted photos and everything. Not one of their kidnapping attempts were successful.
I believe it was because the believers hearkened unto the voice of the Spirit. Now, we had no idea that these people were planning this. The Spirit just said to- pray against human trafficking.
We also pray in the Spirit for our brothers and sisters in Christ by praying when they request us to or even when the Spirit does.

Also, in battle, the Holy Spirt will give us a tactical plan on how to fight this spiritual war. If you’ve ever served in the military, or played Call of Duty😊, then we know that every battle is not the same in every region. We are all soldiers in the same Army, yet we all have different geographical locations and backgrounds. The Holy Spirit helps to fight against territorial spirits, and He gives us our personalized tactical plans to combat the devil/adversary and his minions in our area, which also includes a tactical plan to tear down strongholds in our/ our families lives.

Example, you may be living in a poverty-stricken area where it seems everyone is in bondage and has no plans or desire to break free. This could be because they are plagued by a principality demon called the spirit of Pharoah ~ You as a believer have the authority to come against this territorial power.
Pray in the Spirit. He will guide you on what spirits/ strongholds you need to tackle!

Praying with all kinds of prayers and supplications means, you can come boldly before the Throne of Father God with your prayers and supplications, burdens, concerns and cares. Prayer is communication with God. Praying in the Spirit is being available for God to talk to you, and vice versa!
That’s what I’m getting from Ephesians 6:18.
