We’ve all heard about the Metaverse, but what actually is it? And what does it mean for gamers? We spoke to tech journalist Will Smith, Second Life creator Philip Rosedale and The Washington Post’s Gene Park to get their thoughts on what this new frontier could mean for video games. What is the metaverse? Will the metaverse change gaming and why is everyone interested in it now? Since Facebook changed its name to Meta the concept of the metaverse has been increasingly widespread and discussed. Now video game developers and publishers are announcing new ways the metaverse can be integrated into video games. Gamers are increasingly wary of new schemes that benefit big businesses but not gamers. Microtransactions and battle passes have made gamers sceptical about new ways of playing video games, metaverse, nft integration and crypto currencies only add to their concerns. We discuss what the metaverse could mean for gamers and whether the metaverse will be good, if the metaverse is already here and will the metaverse be the future of gaming.

It will be like what happened/happening with blockchain and NFTs in gaming. It will become a short-lived trend of "AAA" publishers pushing for something they don't understand and thus can't properly explain (or don't want to properly explain) but will ultimately fail because they will prove incapable of explaining to consumers why they would want this. As a result of this, consumers will show they don't want this and the trend will slowly die (inside the gaming industry exclusively) before ever going anywhere.

The metaverse just means connected universes. It was brought on by the idea of ready player one then pushed by things like fortnite and the mcu. Super smash bros is a metaverse, fortnite is a metaverse, and the mcu is a metaverse. It’s not going to be some utopia just another way to sell us things.

I've always been excited to try and play Metaverse games, coz it can take us to places we've never been before. In fact, I'm looking forward to Froyo Games' Moonlanders, a Virtual World game that can bring us to the moon and explore a lot of things! It's still in progress, so let's wait for it.
