This guy's dedication to the videos is outstanding. Thanks got this video! Because these two headphones are just basically same price and was looking to get one of these. Gues will get the XM4 as they have more features and sound more clean, the Ult sound a bit off because all the base overwhelming the rest.

A few additional notes for those trying to make a decision between the various available Sony models (I have both the XM4 and the ULT Wear).

1. Design wise, one of the key adjustments they made from the XM4 design compared to ULT, is the problem with the hinges that caused a lot of them to break for XM4 users has been fixed. On the XM4's, when the ear cups would swivel, there was a plastic piece right above the ear cups that stuck out to the side that wasn't round and flush alongside the rest of the headband... it could get caught on things and lead to hinge failure (it did for a lot of people). On the ULT's, it's all the same round shape as it swivels. No non-round portion to get stuck on something and cause it to potentially break. Should make the ULT more reliable in that respect, despite it being made of "less premium materials" in some people's minds. To me, I passed on the XM5 partially due to their non-foldable design and thus giant carrying case that made traveling with them too difficult. So, of those 3 Sony models... the ULT wins, in my mind, as far as design goes. And it's the cheapest of the 3.

2. Most reviews of the ULT's fail to stress the very important point that the three ULT button settings are all USER DEFINED. I've seen so many reviews talk about how "ULT2 is too much bass, and I would never use it" etc. Well, out of the box, ULT2's Clear Bass level is set automatically to +10. If you want it to be +5 or even +1, you just adjust it in the app, and you're set until you decide to go back to the app and change it. They are WHATEVER LEVELS YOU WANT THEM TO BE. That flexibility with setting the ULT button really needs to be stressed to anyone thinking about getting these. It's honestly the biggest selling point of this model, and barely anyone is mentioning that the ULT button settings are adjustable. I was initially under the wrong impression that they're just two bass levels you're stuck with as the only option, and that ULT2 is "too much, " according to most reviewers. Uninformed people, who are just doing a disservice to their viewers by not accurately describing the feature. The button just serves as a physical way to toggle between 3 different user set bass levels ("off, " and then #1 and #2). They can be adjusted to your liking. Once you do that, you just use the button to alternate between them, without needing to open the app. Makes things so easy.

3. The ULT's really just feel more comfortable than the XM4's. Maybe the "plastic doesn't feel as soft." Maybe. But that's kinda nonsense. They're both plastic. The ear pads on the ULT's are arguably more comfortable than the XM4's.

The ULT's are my new everyday walk around headphones. Despite being considerably cheaper than the XM4's. And I'm not really a "bass head." Take that for what it's worth, y'all!

I am still using my WH-1000XM4 even after 4 years, the build quality speaks for themselves. If you guys want a good all round headphones buy XM4.

Ult wear seems better at canceling people chatting, it would have been nice to see another test canceling low frequency noises, to see the difference.

Got into a car accident recently and my 1000W subwoofers in my car hit the dust. These ULT wears do an amazing job in giving me a replication of the feeling of subwoofers.
I prefer ULT wear's bass, fit, cushioning, transparency mode, battery life, button controlled anc, and the slightly less stuffy feeling i got from my XM4's. Thank you Sony.

Ouch, I got to say, though xm4 should remove some low end noise more, in this sample its almost the same, while ultwear got less high noise... its like xm5 anc on manual with slightly worse lows...

I had the xm3s. Sold them when i found out they handled cold temperatures very bad. Then i got the xm4s. And later on sold them and got the xm5s.. Sold the xm5s after a short while. Didnt like the design/comfort of the headband and the pads. Got the Sony ult wear today. The bass is good on ult off and better on ult 1. On 2 its too much. And on some music its better with ult off. For me, after an short listening time, the ult wear is an good headphones to use, when i need anc and want that extra thump/bass. But im an little hedphone geek, so i like to switch headphones/iems for my mood or usage case. But my wallet are crying 😂😂😂

3 years later I just replaced the cushions on my xm4 with Wicked cushions and now they are as amazing as the first day I bought them.
