Purpose Isn't Petty - Bishop T.D. Jakes

God purposed you for here and now, but do you know why? The what, when, and where of your circumstance are all petty compared to the why. He’s not asking for your résumé because He has already chosen you. God has always used unlikely people for powerful purposes. The sinful, doubtful, shameful, and plagued — they all questioned His choice. But God had a specific reason for using each of them, just like He has a divine design for you. If you want to fulfill God’s purpose, pray for the wisdom to understand why He will use you. His power and omnipotence will illuminate through what He accomplishes in your life!

I’m that Rahab watching online! I used to work as a stripper in a strip club and after that I couldn’t go to church and stopped going I even stopped praying, stopped reading my Bible. Now I listen to Bishop TD Jakes and Sarah Jakes Robert’s every day online from Australia because it’s the only church I can stand the only preacher who makes any sense who I can stand listening to for more than a minute. And I listen over and over to the same sermons. Bishop Jakes is the greatest preacher ever.

I am just now watching this message today August 4th but at the time of it in June me and my husband were down to only $200, about to lose our vehicles and behind on our rent. Then came news of an inheritance that I knew nothing about but God did, and talk about a blessing it exceeds anything I’ve ever had seen in my life. That’s God taking care of what we can’t. He is so amazing!

**Viewer’s Guide:**
This comprehensive guide ties together the sermon's key points, scriptural references, and reflective guidance, providing a holistic resource for viewers to deeply engage with and apply the sermon's teachings in their lives.

**Ordered Summary of Main Points with Biblical References:**

1. **The Dichotomy of Principles and Purpose:**
- The sermon introduces the conflict between principles and purpose, emphasizing that God often prioritizes purpose, as illustrated in the story of Rahab.
- *Scriptural Reference:* Matthew 21:31-32 shows Jesus stating that tax collectors and prostitutes were entering the kingdom of God ahead of some religious leaders, highlighting that divine purpose transcends human principles.

2. **The Concept of 'Petty' and Its Impact:**
- The speaker discusses the notion of 'petty' to describe trivial concerns that distract from God's greater purpose, urging individuals to focus on what’s genuinely important.
- *Scriptural Reference:* In Matthew 23:23-24, Jesus criticizes the Pharisees for neglecting the weightier matters of the law, a caution against getting lost in pettiness at the expense of greater virtues.

3. **God’s Unconventional Methods:**
- The sermon highlights that God uses unexpected individuals and means to fulfill His plans, as shown with Rahab's pivotal role.
- *Scriptural Reference:* 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 explains that God chooses what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, indicating His ability to work outside human expectations.

4. **The Importance of Grace and Non-Judgment:**
- The speaker emphasizes the need for grace and withholding judgment, as God’s workings often defy societal norms and expectations.
- *Scriptural Reference:* John 8:7, where Jesus urges those without sin to cast the first stone, supports the message of practicing grace and avoiding hasty judgment.

5. **The Necessity of Active Participation in God’s Purpose:**
- Believers are encouraged to actively participate in God's purpose, even when it means going against societal norms or personal principles.
- *Scriptural Reference:* James 2:14-17, discussing faith and deeds, reinforces the idea that genuine faith is validated through action.

6. **The Transfer of Wealth and Fulfillment of Promises:**
- The sermon touches on the transfer of wealth as a symbol of divine restitution and the fulfillment of God's promises.
- *Scriptural Reference:* Haggai 2:8, stating that silver and gold belong to God, relates to divine provision and the concept of restitution discussed in the sermon.

7. **Embracing One’s Role in Divine Plans:**
- The conclusion calls for personal acceptance and active engagement in God's plans, irrespective of one’s past or societal status.
- *Scriptural Reference:* Esther 4:14, referencing Esther's crucial role "for such a time as this, " encourages believers to recognize and embrace their roles in divine narratives.

**Points of Reflection:**

- Consider how the dichotomy between principles and purpose plays out in your own life. Are there moments where a greater purpose was served through unconventional means?
- Reflect on instances where you may have focused on 'petty' concerns rather than broader, more significant issues. How can you realign your priorities to focus on purposeful living?
- Think about the grace you extend to others. Are you quick to judge, or do you offer space for redemption and understanding, recognizing that everyone can play a part in a larger purpose?

**Questions for Comprehension and Reflection:**

1. How does the story of Rahab challenge traditional views on morality and righteousness within the context of serving a divine purpose?
2. In what ways does the concept of 'pettiness' manifest in modern society or your personal life, and how does it hinder the fulfillment of a larger purpose?
3. Can you identify with the notion of God using unconventional methods or people for His plans? How does this affect your perception of yourself and others?
4. How does the sermon's emphasis on active participation in God’s purpose resonate with your personal faith journey? Are there areas in your life where you need to take action to align with this purpose?
5. Reflecting on the idea of divine restitution and fulfillment of promises, how does this concept influence your understanding of personal losses, gains, or divine justice?

I'm a college student facing the struggles of surviving life and attending school away from home, and God, My God, had proven to me repeatedly, through each battle, that He had made a way when I thought and was told it was no way.

Lord. I asked that you cast anything that is unlike you in my life. I asked that you allow me to start asking why it happen and not what happen. Allow me to stop gossiping and judging the people I love but give them encouragement, love and grace. I asked that I become a safe space for those people, and not become “RELIGIOUS.” Lord I ask for forgiveness on this day. Lastly, I asked that you used me for your will. In Jesus name, Amen! Happy Saturday ✨

I was suspended from work for making a bad decision.
The purpose in the position is to serve.
I pray when I return to work that I continue to hear this message.
And I do still have a job... thank you Jesus.
