I hated this meeting. Travelling should make you worldly, but some people become more snobbish and ignorant.

It's so wrong to shame people for not having the opportunity to travel. It's an opportunity and a privilege. She has no idea, I can't believe it lol.

Stacy constantly mentioning he hasn’t had a passport or travelled is so classist. Anyone else notice how different she’s dressed for her father? Totally different.

Stacy telling her family that Izzy doesn't have a passport and eats off paper plates really gives me vibes. It's a way to get a group of people who you know will agree with you on the subject (and therefore be "on your side") to give the same reaction you had to the issue and in a convoluted way group shame the Izzy or Nancy of the situation. Not great.

The more of Stacy I see the less I am liking her behavior. She seems to have an idea of what she wants Izzy to be instead of accepting him as he is. I feel bad for Izzy, because Stacy seems to have a relationship style that belittles and demeans others instead of letting go of the expectations that she is pushing onto them.

This is one of the scenes I’ve been waiting for! The passport comment really rubbed me the wrong way. I understand being surprised…but why not take a second to check yourself and think about WHY you’re so surprised. I’m not Izzy’s biggest fan but this moment could not have been fun for him, poor guy

So glad the materialism is brought up and the link to loneliness and depression.

The solution is so obvious: Izzy gets gold-lined paper plates.

I don’t understand Stacey’s argument of “don’t you care about me enough to use proper plates” cuz he didn’t know her when he bought the plastic ones. Did she expect him to rush to the store after Mexico and stock the cabinets full of new dishes?!

I've never had a passport. I'll probably never even be able to afford to canada or mexico or alaska or hawaii either. It's just a fact of life for a LOT of americans. I've taken a number of road trips in my life, across the 48, and that was cool ....but affording air travel, hotels, and all that is a whole other echelon of income.

Honestly, if I were in Izzy’s shoes I’d feel very uncomfortable and like I were being heavily interrogated by Stacey’s family. Like yeah finances play a heavy part in picking your partner, but it’s a bit disheartening that it seemed none of her family were really interested in seeing the value of his character whatsoever.

Your commentary on de-programming materialism is interesting! I’d be interested to hear you talk more on this.

This is a great example of wanting to know where someone is now, without wanting or caring where someone has come from and been through. Context is everything

The flip side of this whole passport thing is that as an immigrant, I’ve always had to own a passport as basic ID to exist in this country and prove I belong here, so to folks like us it’s arguably a privilege to be able to exist in this country without anything more than a driver’s license / state ID, if even that. Not trying to make this a “woe is me”, but wanted to throw in a different angle and point out that owning a passport isn’t always a sign of wealth / privilege / luxury (sometimes it’s quite the opposite).

BUT THEY WEREN'T ALL PAPER! They looked like the plates I have, which are "plastic" but made of wheat. You can microwave them without toxic chemicals leaking into your food, and they can go in the dishwasher, and they don't break! They're fab! He had cups, bowls, plates, and even wine glasses. If I was single I'd have the paper plates and solo cups too, for those nights when I just don't want to bother with anything. Why not?

What a snob. I'm sorry, but she needs to get over herself. I like those dishes. lol

I do see some push back here in Europe when it comes to buying "new" clothes - especially younger generations are buying more secondhand. Sometimes it's environmentally motivated, other times it's to emulate a higher status with expensive products without paying the full price.

I didn’t take the sister as saying the same thing you did…i thought she was saying that many people spend their 20s trying to figure out what career path they’re on, and since he is almost 30, was asking if he felt like he was now on a path that was going to be stable so that he could have more financial stability

I wonder if Stacy is the youngest because she seems to be the most affected amongst her sisters by their parents' divorce. Maybe it happened at a formative stage of her childhood. I think she's very guarded in relationships and is afraid of making the wrong choice.

You hit it right on the head. There aren't enough people pushing back against materialism, and there's an uprising on luxury lifestyles & luxury travel.

When Izzy said “now I’m about to just go” he thought he was about to hit the jackpot with Stacy lol!
