The Cuban Revolution is rightly considered an inspiration by communists worldwide. This tremendous movement threw off the chains of capitalism and US imperialism, opening the way for incredible social, economic and technological advances in what had previously been a brutally oppressed society. Today, however, the Cuban Revolution faces a number of perils.

This week’s episode welcomes Jorge Martin, a leading member of the International Marxist Tendency, to discuss the past, present and future of the Cuban Revolution. Isolated and bullied by US imperialism, it is now more important than ever to defend the gains of the Cuban Revolution and fight to overthrow capitalism internationally.

short comment - the new economic politic was not a temporary restoration of capitalism in the sowiet union but temporary restoration of certain elements of market. It's not that old capitalists got their means of production back and were allowed to exploit workers. The "capitalist elements" consisted mostly of allowing the farmers to actually sell their stuff instead of giving it to the state and had the goal to motivate them to produce more. During the civil war, the cities could not really produce enough to give the farmers anything in return for their products. Therefore, many farmers would produce less or just store their stuff instead of giving it away nearly for free. The NEP aimed to change that. It never had the goal to create a new layer of rich which it did because Stalin just kept going with it.

Of course you can have "socialism in 1 country".

The country just has to be big enough.

This is hilarious.
Why don’t you just skip the history and get to all your excuses for why life in Cuba today is miserable?
