Fallout 3 / Van Buren Tech Demo ⭐ Cancelled Interplay Version

Van Buren is the working title of the original Fallout 3 game, which was under development by Black Isle Studios, a division of Interplay Entertainment. However, Interplay closed down this studio due to financial difficulties in 2003, leading the game to be cancelled. The intellectual property of the Fallout series was sold to Bethesda Softworks, who started development of their own version of Fallout 3. It was released in 2008.

In Van Buren, the game would have begun in a prison cell. You had the choice to be innocent because of some misunderstanding, or to be a criminal and take bonus traits. Waking up after an explosion, the cell doors are open.

The plot of the tech demo is not connected to the main storyline, it was intended to be included as a tutorial. So you start as a citizen escorted to a vault by Corporal Armstrong. To reach the vault, you must fight communist insurgents. After entering, you are supposed to help turn on the life support system.

The tech demo has many bugs, as it is an unfinished game. So, there are many things that don't work or may lead to a crash. It uses the Jefferson Engine, which was made for Baldur's Gate 3, but was never used. The name Van Buren derives from Martin Van Buren, the 8th president of the USA.

Cool to see what Black Isle tried to do after Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale!

The atmosphere is a lot more realized.

Legend has it that Van Buren is being worked on in an alternate universe...

If this had been made with a combat system like Final Fantasy or Knights Of The Old Republic and an open world like New Vegas, this game could have been great.

The first Fallout games were great, but the gameplay always needed improvement.

There are many modes that improve the classic games, because moders, moders never change (ha; ha; ha).

if someone could combine the writing of Fallout 2; the RPG elements of New Vegas; and the smooth combat of Fallout 4, it would be the best Fallout ever.

The irony is that if Interplay hadn't focused on the dogshit console spin-off of Brotherhood of Steel Van Buren would likely have released and Interplay wouldn't have been in financial trouble.

we can imagine if bethesda not buy fallout games and his assets.

I really like the gritty atmosphere, in the older games with the amazing sound design. The western, 50s homage bethesda made, just feels generic, unoriginal and boring

i would have played the hell out of it, unlike fallout4

3D for 3D sake is lame. Fallout 2 was best of all time.
