My great grandfather used oxen for years in the woods of Alabama, usa.
He also was responsible for putting the first steam engine train in those woods with oxen.

Mainland Subspecies:


European Aurochs (Bos primigenius primigenius): Bojanus, 1825: Europe, the Middle East, Western Caspian Sea, Caucasian Mountains, Southern Central Asia (Southern Uzbekistan and Southern Turkmenistan), Afghanistan, Central and Southern Pakistan, and North-Western India.

Indian Aurochs (Bos primigenius namadicus): Falconer, 1859: Indian Subcontinent like India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

North African Aurochs (Bos primigenius opisthonomus): Thomas, 1881: North Africa.

Siberian Aurochs (Bos primigenius sinensis): Zheng et al., 2024: East Asia (Eastern Mongolia, Korean Peninsula and Northern China), Southern Siberia (Russia), Karakoram Areas of the Northern Indian Subcontinent (Northern India and Northern Pakistan) and Central Asia.




Oldest Dwarf Subspecies:


Sicilian Aurochs (Bos primigenius siciliae): Sicily.

Kythiran Aurochs (Bos primigenius thrinacius): Greek island of Kythira.
