Our society values being busy and equates it to success. We rush around and constantly try to speed up. Then we’re unable to slow down and unwind when the time comes. When we actually do pause, it makes us uncomfortable.
It is very hard for those of us in medicine to pause. We were trained and acculturated to think that the pause and rest are not worthwhile. That they are complacent and/or lazy and that we might fall behind if we pause or rest. In medicine, we glorify busy, empty, exhausted
We are addicted to busyness and productivity.
The pause and rest are some of the most effective productivity, performance, and contentment tools
Prioritizing the pause is strategic.
The more you do the more you need to rest.
Pauses prevent burnout
