Woody Allen's IRRATIONAL MAN is about a tormented philosophy professor who finds a will to live when he commits an existential act. Philosophy professor Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix) is at rock bottom emotionally, unable to find any meaning or joy in life. Abe feels that everything he's tried to do, from political activism to teaching, hasn't made any difference.

Soon after arriving to teach at a small town college, Abe gets involved with two women: Rita Richards (Parker Posey), a lonely professor who wants him to rescue her from her unhappy marriage; and Jill Pollard (Emma Stone), his best student, who becomes his closest friend. While Jill loves her boyfriend Roy (Jamie Blackley), she finds Abe's tortured, artistic personality and exotic past irresistible. Even as Abe displays signs of mental imbalance, Jill's fascination with him only grows. Still, when she tries to make their relationship a romantic one, he rebuffs her.

Pure chance changes everything when Abe and Jill overhear a stranger's conversation and become drawn in.

Once Abe makes a profound choice, he is able to embrace life to the fullest again. But his decision sets off a chain of events that will affect him, Jill and Rita forever.

loved this movie. i liked the part where she was like you suffer from despair and selfhate yupppp . great movie as it was poetic and natural. the characters had a natural sense for passion and learning as they were in a college environment. needed this to influence my life.

Most of the comments are baseless and immature.  This an adult comedy.  The characters are a part of a world that consists of values, morals, principles and standards.  This world is alien to the American idol/Kanye West generation.  People incapable of deep, substantive relationships would not understand this movie.

I hate how Woody Allen writes every movie in his own voice, and all these talented actors are willing to go ahead and speak like that vile man. Every movie of his is the same whiny neurosis with outdated idioms and phrases that no 30 year old in 2015 would say.

it seems from the trailer that there's going to be some big revelation about for joaquin feeling better halfway throught the trailer. Some dark secret reason for his happiness. 
I guees it's going to be some absurd reason like he randomly murdered someone, randomly or  for an "irrational" reason.

Revenue models of entertainment bussiness has changed and now solely built on content being offred and in this lot of companies have no choice left nut to be partners in sharing, audience are tired of bombarded with too much and they stay only if something worthwhile their attention grabs them, so with online streaming now on everybodys gadgets and theatre revenues spiralled down at least in internet savvy nations, asia and south america still in smaller center's have that theatre going public, what should be revenue model that when i am hired professionally and in that black white club shall be told straight "NO"

I used to love Woody Allen. I've seen almost all of his movies. But as I accidentally rewatch his movies, I can't help but to think what the hell I was thinking ?! God no! They may seem charming but they aren't. They are just boring.
