Never ever tell an employer you are leaving, until you have an offer in your hand. I have personally witnessed somebody who announced he would be leaving once a milestone in his project is reached, and that put him at the very top of the layoff list. He was let go on the company's terms, rather than leaving on his own terms.

Bosses are constantly saying oh I didn't know you were unhappy...Maybe we can address this money issue (if its raise related). I can tell you it rarely works to your advantage if you share this info with your boss. If you put your job in a position where they are forced to give you a bonus they will be planning your exit from that point forward

Only reason I told my boss is because it was an internal application and HR would have told them anyway.

I wanted a promotion to a new job in my organization, and HR rules require the boss to write a supervisor input/feedback for promotions, which gets attached to the job application. The application isn't complete without the boss' input. So my boss knows. That isn't required for a lateral job. For external jobs, I haven't mentioned it to my boss.

In a world of disposable employers/employees, I would not bother to waist my time on telling the boss. Who cares.

Is there a tutorial on writing a professional letter of resignation. What are common mistakes and what should be included?

What if we got asked for reference at the very first stage of interview? Should we give them?

The only scenario I can think of that this may be Ok, is if your entire department is getting laid off.

You are under no obligation to tell them anything, as far as yheir concerned, you don't have a second job.

It would be nice to reduce number of cuts. It's okay to have less fluent speech for 1.5min. Thanks for advice!
