The comparison is between next and create-react-app. Not react.
Next IS a server-side framework that CONSUMES React.

This forces you to use a node backend. It's not really fair to compare Next and React in this context. If you have a React frontend but an Apache or any other kind of backend that isn't JS/TS based, Next isn't even an option. Also, I don't know if they made the image component better, but when it first came out, I couldn't compile the images to a static site.
