Antonio Lauro - Registro (Preludio) | Played by Jonathan Richter
Показать описание
Venezuelan guitarist and composer Antonio Lauro (August 3, 1917 – April 18, 1986) has an outstanding reputation as one of the most important South American guitar composers in the 20th century.
Registro is a gorgeous piece that has an almost mystical quality. The piece is a prelude (Preludio) and is the first movement of the Lauro's Suite Venezolana. The suite has four movements total.
Lauro composed the suite in 1951-1952 while he was imprisoned for speaking out against the Venezuelan government.
My interpretation of this piece was heavily inspired by an old audio recording of Lauro performing this beautiful work – especially in measures 4-6 where I heard him almost roll the chords in fast succession.
The tempo isn't explicitly stated in the edition by Alirio Diaz, who was a dear friend and colleague of Lauro. As a result, the score allows for vast interpretations for how different phrases can be played. The vibe of the piece leads one to explore duality: fast and slow, loud and soft, bright and dark, smooth and rugged.
That said, I've never played this piece the same way twice! If you're learning this piece, I encourage you to enjoy the freedom this work allows. Be open to interpretation and experimentation as you explore this wonderful composition!
