These emplacements were called "Tobruks" from the battle that they were first used in.

Preparing for TET in 1968 along the road leading into Saigon. We Americans had tanks sand bagged buried with turrets pointing north. Saw it on the way back to Long Binh.

The image was captured at St Raphael, which is now a pleasant sea side resort on the Côte D'Azur.

It’s a Panzer II with an MG and 20mm auto canon.

They were all over France on the coast. It was just one of the types of embattlements at the Atlantic Wall. They were a tank turret over a concrete bunker.

They field stripped the tank turret. And placed them in a concrete base. They did this with old tanks

After Germany captured most of Europe, it had a lot of captured allied equipment. It took some of the captured tanks and used the turrets as pill boxes, because they only had limited ammunition for the captured tanks.

Marine who was with Task Force Ripper in Desert Storm. The Iraqis did the same thing. The tanks were so enclosed and dug in that they were not moving anywhere. They were just turrets.

I saw a lot of odd things in the Vietnam War, and had to keep moving on, curiosity unsatisfied. However, curiosity kills soldiers.
