Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Unboxing & Review (2024): Best Laptop for Students?

I just picked up this new 14" Lenovo Yoga 9i for my wife to test out while she is going to school. This laptop checks so many of the boxes. The first two were that it's "Light Weight" and that it has an "All Day Battery" so she doesn't have to keep it plugged in all the time. This one definitely checks those first 2 boxes; coming in under 3lbs this can definitely be carried around every day without breaking your back. Also in testing it was able to stream YouTube videos on full brightness for over 8 hrs. strait! If that won't get here through a full day at school, I will be impressed. Then the next important upgrade is screen resolution. While it is only a 14 in. laptop having a higher resolution display means that it can display more info on the screen while still being legible, so if you're cross referencing two different documents at once, you can open them up side by side and the text on the screen will still be legible. The next most important upgrade was RAM because the ram in this laptop is NOT UPGRADABLE because it is soldered to the motherboard, so we loaded it up with as much RAM as possible at 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM. This should definitely future proof it to make sure we can at least get through the next 3 yrs of school without "needing" an upgrade. The last major upgrade we filtered for was storage. Wile you can save some money getting a smaller hard drive we didn't want to ever have to worry about running out of space so this one was ordered with a 1TB M.2 SSD. While we wanted to get one with a dedicated graphics card to really put this into the realm of "THE PERFECT LAPTOP" unfortunately a graphics card was the one sacrifice that was made with this laptop. Other noteworthy features that came with this Lenovo Yoga book 9i is the Intel Core Ultra 7 (155H) processor that seems to be fairly standard across other models in this price point. As well as the Lenovo Slim Pen, while we don't plan to really go crazy with all of the capabilities of this pen (there's a lot) its a nice upgrade to get. We also like that it came with a case that fits it perfectly, and was made from recycled materials. The speakers on this preformed well for us, and the ability to use any of the 3 USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) ports on either side of the laptop to charge it makes charging super convenient. It also uses WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.1 with is plenty for our needs.

I have a 3 to 4 year old 9i and pen is docked in laptop. That and sound hinge was reason I bought it. I didn't think I'd use pen but because it's in laptop I use it 2 to 3 times a y3ar. On this laptop I don't think I'd ever use it because it's not conveniently always there. Still lli hate windows 11 so I'm waiting till a windows 12 comes out and if it's significantly different to 11 and close to 10 I will check out audio on spectre xpx and 9i as that is only reason left for me to get a 9i. Mins great but the so called battery lif3 has never met it's stated timings.
