it is interesting that it takes a hard drive to contain the information on something small enough to fit easily in the nucleus of a call. Fascinating even.

I have listened to a lot of Radiolab that consulted with Carl Zimmer. It's cool to see the man behind the voice.

Thanks for the great interview. I am a huge genetics nerd so this one was extra special, even if the interview didn't get very technical, I appreciate the links to the info and articles. This is fascinating!

Hank sounds so envious that he doesn't have his genome on a hard drive :P

I really enjoyed this episode however I felt it was distracting going between both people. I think it would be better to do a split screen instead of the way this one was done.

In the event that hard drive is misplaced, you ought to consider having a notice on it reading "if found, please clone."

Can you get his brother Hans to do some music for the show, thanx.

The study of the genomes with computers is called bioinformatics. Bioinformaticians write the programs which take all the small pieces of DNA and put them together to get the whole genome. Then they try to find mutations or genes wich are responsible for diseases for example.
Nowadays scientist like to sequence the genome of all the organism they are working with to get as many information as possible.
But Bioinformaticians are also interested in creating tools to make comparing genomes faster and better. For example if the scientist wants to compare the genome of a mouse and a human.
They also work on databases to store the genomes of many organisms so the can be easily compared. One of most famous databases is NCBI (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). You can past pieces of DNA in this free online tool and it will tell you if the DNA piece is found in other organisms as well by comparing your input with the whole data set.

Why did he blur the hard drive when he was showing it?

Why do words look weird if you see/hear them too many times in quick succession?
