Good God. Gotta love finding this treasure 54 years after it’s release. Better late than never. Sweet discovery. ❤️

The other night I was drinking in a dive bar and an old man play this song on the jukebox. I was and still am absolutely mesmerized. The lsong came out several years before my birth. It has a Holy feel. Almost like a secular him. Love it. Keep on rockin

They sound like a cross between The Band and The Dead

Mott the Hoople, of all bands, did a very good version of this song as well...

The lyrics:

Leavin' you, girl, headin' down the road
You left me many burdens, such a heavy load
And it sure does wig me out
When I think about what went down

Crossroads of my life passed her
When her face couldn't begin to recognize
Rolled on through my mind
'Til I took the time to concentrate on you

You can teach me lots of lessons
You can bring me lot of gold
But you just can't live in Texas
If you don't have a lot of soul

Leavin' you now for the very last time
Leavin' you now, really blown your mind
And where you're livin' now
You are findin' how the other half lives

You can teach me lots of lessons
You can bring me lot of gold
But you just can't live in Texas
If you don't have a lot of soul

Leavin' you now for the very last time
You really did it this time when you blown your mind
Some day a change will come
And you'll be beside me one more time, one more time

And you will be beside me one more time, ah yeah
You will be by me just one more time, yeah

That note Doug hits at the end is one of if not the most soulful in all of music history. Man, does it hit hard.

Doug Sahm is one of the most underrated musicians of all-time! And this song is just A Classic👌

For a guy who seemed to me to be more about moments and live performances, this is his finest vocal performance. That final ‘one more yeah’ gets me every goddamn time

countless days when we simply cruised along our many roads of life and good fortune would give us the ease to rarely worry about the many important things to come

This is just freakin PERFECT!

SAHM - incredibly versatile, great voice, criminally underrated (not by musicians though)

Funny I have been listening to this video out of only my right ear plug and it gives this song an incredible ghostly sound.

Always thought we should have a Doug Sahm sculpture here in Austin instead of SRV.

Same sound and feel as the Duane & Greg Allman album.
