Paris restaurant owners had hoped to see a boom in business as crowds flocked to the city for this summer’s Olympic Games, but instead many along the French capital’s River Seine have been left virtually empty. The reason, owners say, is a police security perimeter that is keeping visitors away.

What's the point of the hosting the Olympics if the locals can't benefit from the increase of tourist. Very sad to see!

Something is seriously wrong when the City of Light looks more like a war zone than a place that is celebrating sport.

Once again the Olympics brings horrific economic impacts to a city, its residents, and its taxpayers. It’s time to stop this madness. It is my sincere hope that their isn’t a single city bidding for the next unassigned games. Only that will force the IOC to make changes.

Overrated, unsafe, expensive, dirty. Not even for free i would set foot on that city again.

This is probably the safest Paris will ever be.

The Olympics always wreak havoc on the host city. Personally we left france 2 weeks ago and will not return till 2 weeks after the Olympics are over. Not interested in dealing with that mess. A bientôt.

As a Frenchman, I can confirm that everything is falling apart in France and particularly in Paris. What's funny (or not!) at 0:33 is that there is a gross spelling mistake: "Voie fermé" instead of "Voie fermée". It doesn't seem like much and many will say it's not a big deal, but it's yet another sign of the collapse of my country.

…..I don’t want to visit Paris and see ugly metal gates, and security barricades everywhere. ……I’ll see Paris late May, 2025.

The world we are living in now. This past year the super bowl in the states had way pumped up security compared with previous years.

This security perimeter is mainly for the opening ceremony on Friday. After that pedestrians and cyclists will be able to get around fairly normally. Not all of Paris is like this, either. It's tough on these restaurateurs but away from the venues restaurants and cafés are as busy as normal.
It's a sad reflection on the modern world that this level of security is necessary but I'd rather have this than government complacency and a terrible terrorist attack to happen.
And as another commenter has posted, people were very downbeat at the start of the London 2012 Games but once they started everyone had a great time. I hope Paris, my adopted city, will be the same.

Olympics are a waste of money for the host city.

Best ad for Olympic Games 2024.
I'm getting ready to spend my money to buy beer and chips and watch it on TV from home

Been to Paris many many times and not being allowed to sit/relax/gander and eat causally on such a beautiful street with the incredible staff is heartbreaking. Those owners could making a small fortune with the Olympics. My favorite bistro -closed..So sad..

Sad, they jacked their prices up in Paris for greed. Let’s take advantage of these tourists.

Hosting the Olympics hardly seems worth the trouble.

Hence, Olympics is a hit, not a boom, to the local economy.
