Frédéric Yonnet recorded a special arrangement of “Somewhere (There’s a Place for Us)” for the Democratic National Convention’s Memoriam presentation which airs Wed, July 27.  The song from the Broadway musical West Side Story (1961), features Yonnet on harmonica and co-arranger Samuel Prather on keys. Yonnet’s interpretation is a contemporary departure from the original, composed by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

Our future vice president plays the harmonica, so I had wondered about the musician here. Thought "interesting that this recording was chosen, considering the instrument's connection to Tim Kaine", and now learn it was specially recorded for the DNC's "tribute" presentation...seemed an unusual choice of instrumentation...but I thought it was lovely.
