A Patron of Economic Update asks: "If pay for workers increases, won't that increase consumption (unless its stolen back through inflation) and, in turn, America's carbon footprint? I'm concerned about sustainability."

This is Professor Richard Wolff's video response.

“Marxism always was the critical shadow of capitalism. Their interactions changed them both. Now Marxism is once again stepping into the light as capitalism shakes from its own excesses and confronts decline.”

A big problem is the way neighborhoods were designed. If shopping, schools and entertainment were in walking/biking distance, it would save so much transportation costs and pollution.

Suburbia is a ponzi scheme and it’s ills are well covered in channels like NotJustBikes. Public transport works best when it is part of a larger urban plan, but back to suburbia. Car independent cities save time, lives, energy and are economically vibrant instead of being a ponzi scheme where taxes don’t cover the cost of suburban neighborhoods. They are also child friendly. The deeper choice is to change zoning laws to make health cities legal.

The waste of resources at a huge carbon footprint, is war.

Greetings Prof Wolf, 40 years ago, I was saying double the price of gas with a dollar a gallon tax and use that revenue for public transportation... we're still talking about the same good idea

I suppose only some kind of spiritual healing, happiness and hope can heal my Emotional Damage after the Inflation pummeling. I don't think drugs will do the trick this time.

The war machine produces more emissions by far than personal vehicles which are minor in comparison and then you have ever single corporate fleet of vehicles, these are not personal.

Capitalism is like running a new computer with 25 year old software, horribly inefficient.

The current system works until we start running-out of stuff. At that time, we’ll be forced to make changes, so we will.

Global warming is just one of many problems caused by overconsumption. Wolff is wrong about this. Overconsumption and overpopulation are the twin physical roots of all environmental and ecological problems, and ANY extra consumption would be a bad thing. People in the U.S. already consume way too much, and need to greatly lower their consumption. If people need higher wages just to survive, that's one thing. But higher wages that cause more consumption is a very bad thing for the Earth and all the life here.

Professor Wolff I am not a Patreon member and I understand that you are a very busy person but just a quick question are we officially in a recession being that our GDP hasn't grown in 2 consecutive quarter's??

One step at a time. I don't want to live in a multifamily dwelling. Been there and done that.

Absolutely, everything mentioned is possible and more. I've always thought about an interstate train system patterned after the highway system. I think most people would definitely opt for a train that moves at 200 mph over a slow, tiring and dangerous drive if giving the option.

I have an idea why you do it Prof Wolff, unfortunately your ideas are about altering some of the typeface of 'the book', whereas the actual words in 'the book' still predominate.
More power to you Prof., respect, and A Luta Continua !

We had our major touting some new construction which was more dense housing. The joke was they wanted to sell you some "tiny house" like 300 sf condo for like $300, 000. It was laughable that this was 'progress'. The builders thinking they will make giant profits by building huge 'green' tiny places at the same prices as the big ones. Nobody is going to buy these things.

Edison has lobbied California that to get a permit for solar the person can only put on the solar panels that they have average historical usage. The major cost of putting on solar is set up cost and tying into the electrical system and adding solar panels is the cheapest part. Then they have the audacity to tell us to conserve during peak hours because they don't have enough supply! We need to take over the system and they can become a infrastructure company. The reason is to limit private electrical production and Edison's profits.
