How to Set Up Behringer X-Air XR18 Wifi Client

A quick one for my band mates mainly... How to connect a Behringer X-Air XR18 mixer to a home wifi network (Wifi Client Mode). Whether this will work for everyone, I have no idea; it will no doubt depend on your home network (and security) settings, but this works reliably for me and is offered as a starting point as there seems to be little else available.

I have been trying to work this out for a year. Probably the most simple yet confusing function of the whole device. Appreciated!

Thank you very much. It worked for me, after I switched to a 2.4GHz network. For those who were unable to do so, make sure to check that your network is not 5GHz.

Great video! I was scratching my head when many Youtube videos mentioned to 'connect' your PC/laptop to xr18 first to set up wifi client! I am like, if I can connect somehow, why bother the wifi client! Now I understand what they really meant! The advantage over connecting your existing home router over direct peer to peer ethernet (connecting your home router via ethernet cable is fine, if it is close enough) or built-in access point method is that you can use internet in your laptop/pc. You can setup an extra router, using just the ethernet ports and it's native wifi network without the WAN internet connection, but you'd lose internet, because you can't use both the wifi and ethernet port of your laptop/pc to access internet/home network, I guess. Another method is to use a TPlink extender that extend your home network and connect your pc/laptop to it's ethernet ports via cable. The connection to the x18 will still be cordless! There's a detailed instruction video on Youtube.

so can you easily go back and forth between wifi client and access point without needing pc edit (and hence a computer) to reconfigure things each time? Occasionally the mixer will be used outdoors or for events away from "home base" where there is a good wifi network connection. Thanks.

Not working for me, im not sure after u turn the mixer back on and flip the switch to client mode and also open the xair app, should the xair network automatically pop in on the set up icon?

How do I connect the x18 to my home router via wifi so that I have both the internet and the mixer connected to my computer so I can manage it with its software?

This is always hit and miss with mine. It really ticks me off that they don't let you control it via the USB which I have connected already for my DAW.

I followed these excellent instructions but I could not get it to work. But finally, I went back to the setup page where you type in your password - on the WLAN setup page - and I typed my password in again. Interestingly, the "apply" button did not light up. But pressing "enter" after typing in the password cause the "apply" button to light, which I clicked, and eureka, then it worked. So maybe that's the trick - just typing in the password may not cause it to register. Type it and immediately press "enter" on your keyboard.
