I'm thrilled to see you milling, modifying, building... I'm 63, the daughter of a carpenter, and this is my passion for 50+ years. For me though it was something I didn't talk about b/c it was a "man's" work. I'm proud of the things I've been able to accomplish and thrilled to see young women becoming more and more involved. Keep up the good work, I'm proud of you.

Super concise reasons for why each piece of equipment is used. No unnecessary talk. Really good instructions.

Being a knife maker I don't have any experience drawing pieces of wood this big. However I have heard of other people that have made drying rooms or drying cabinets that greatly shorten the amount of time it takes to dry wood.. smaller pieces you can use your oven to dry. I've gone from cut down tree to ready to use 100% dry and stabilized wood in about a week and a half. Quite literally put it in the toaster oven for a few days at 120 degrees and gradually increase the temperature then vacuum stabilize once the water content is down to near zero

I have several pieces of oak and pine from my property and have wanted to mill slabs. You are so timely in your videos. I just finished my tiny house/she shed. Absolutely perfect motivation to start on slabs. Thanks for showing me women with power tools are capable of most anything.

I started milling with a used Norwood 2000 bandsaw mill I found used for $2000. I've had it for 3 years, and it paid for itself with very limited 'part time use' in less than 6 months. I'm retired, still working full time, tug boat Captain, 66 years young, and have learned so much from your videos. Keep up the great work. Thanks

April, You are right, they are beautiful pieces of wood. I can not wait to see what you make with them.

April: I am a beginner carpenter in Cutral-Có, (Patagonia Argentina). Thanks to many videos of yours, like this one, I have been able to build my house. In this particular case, I learned an excellent method to flatten with my router the both sides of the two pine boards that I glued to make the main door of my future home, but when the wood was put in the weather it became twisted because some wood comes from Buenos Aires, and here in the steppe the climate is very much drier. This house we are making all of recycled pine wood.
I do not know how to thank you for so much.

Don't forget to file the depth gauges on your chain too. The stihl tool is very quick for this and does it at the same time as the tooth.

I am a beginner guitar maker and this looks like the best way to come up with some wonderful wood.

I am so happy to have found this channel. As someone who grew up around construction and stick frame building people, it's so great to find a skilled woman whose work I can enjoy. Thank you!

I can personally confirm that slabbing logs really is addicting! 😉 I don't have a winch and I think I'm going to need one of them! You make this look so effortless! And that was such a good idea to pile up scraps to fit your second log in your supports. Massive thumbs up for all the helpful information in this video! I can't wait to see the furniture you make with your slabs!

Just started cutting up a huge red cedar in my yard thanks to Hurricane Michael. Amazed at how beautiful the wood is. May have to pick up a sawmill. Great video!
