Mitzi, if you haven’t done this, the next time you’re in Atlanta, go walk around Oakland Cemetery and see where Margaret Mitchell is buried. It’s a really neat/beautiful/unique cemetery. I *think* you can also tour her home. I did a Gone With the Wind movie costume tour on the Marietta Square many years ago and that was a lot of fun, too. Vivian Lee’s waistline was crazy tiny!

Mitzi I so enjoy your southern accent way of describing wonderful books. We have so many similar books in common. Glad you read Thomas Hardy and enjoyed him!

I'm so happy you enjoyed A Tale of Two Cities! It's my absolute favorite. I'm glad you stuck with it, I think that's one of the best ways to read classics - keep at it until it starts making sense! Absolutely agree with your thoughts on Thomas Hardy too. I've read a lot of his, and even though some were pretty sad, it's really good.

I love Christy! I grew up watching the movie and this is the first time I've seen anyone mention it. Truly such a great story.

Durrell's series was one of my favorites of the year when I read it too! James Herriot has been a longtime favorite, so I think Durrell's style was nostalgic and cozy for me. I have been reliving the trio through the Masterpiece TV series. I also recently discovered Durrell's other books discussing his work in adulthood and am looking forward to trying those out! Excited to see someone else who has a similar taste in books.

Hello! I came upon your channel because I am going through BookTube to see everyone's Best of 2022. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was by far my FAVORITE read of 2022. I have never known anyone to read Gone with the Wind. Although a friend/coworker tells me that that is her favorite movie of all time! She names two of her daughters Katie and Melanie because of Gone with the Wind. I had no idea that Christy was a book. I was a HUGE fan of the TV series!

I read Gone with the Wind because of you, trust me I never thought I would read that book I haven’t even seen the movie. But boy oh boy favorite read of the year. Am not going to lie I was a bit sad at the end so I went on to read Scarlett that was a good book and made me smile in the end. My sister and I also read the Blue Castle because of your recommendation that was a five star read for sure. Keep the recommendations coming love your channel.

P.S I can’t get enough of your accent you really don’t hear that in Southern California.

The Giver is my favorite… I was a seven grade English teacher for many years. I taught it for all of those years. I now currently teach high school English and I an nearly as fond of the books I teach now. My 12th graders read the best books for my kids. The get to read Educated, which is pretty good, and they read Hamlet which is a favorite.

My favorite of 2022 was not one book but rather author Agatha Christie. Since I live in Texas and you drive a lot here, I was able to listen to 18 Agatha Christie novels on audiobook, which were free from the library. I would listen once and find out who the murder was and then go back and listen again with focus on the character development and hints about the killer. Absolutely enjoyable!!

I don't know if you're still checking comments on this video after all this time, but if you want a novel with a character like the narrator of The Blue Castle then I have a few to recommend: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, and The Haunting of Hill House and Hangsaman by Shirley Jackson. The stories themselves are quite different (and much darker, though not graphic) but the main characters all share the dreamy, insecure personality of Valancy. And the writing in all of them is gorgeous.

That’s a beautiful edition of a tale of two cities, do you mind sharing the edition?

My favorite read was The Other Sister. Like you, I loved it. I will never look at Mary Bennett the same again. Even Mr Collins. I just wanted to cry because we have all felt at one time or other in our lives that we are "less than". And had it reaffirmed by someone else we care about. It did not look too favorably on Elizabeth. Of course, it was from Mary's view. I read Christy in High School and loved it. I have that original little paperback is somewhere around here. If you love that book about animals, I think there is a book called the Durrells of Corfu. and there is a whole series on Masterpiece theater about the family. The mother moves the whole family to Italy or Greece. The little boy is always into animals and little creatures. He learns all about them. The family is quite quirky. But you just know that the little boy will end up a vet when he grows up because of his love for animals of all kinds. If you like reading about the NC mountains, read Where the Lillies Bloom. They made a movie of the book right here in the county where I live.

And one more you would love is Jenny Gerhart by Theodoe Dreiser. I think you will fall in love with Jenny. Let me know🌺

You're going to love the T.V. adaptation. And, if you haven't read DANDELION WINE by Ray Bradbury, you should. It is a series of inter-connected short stories that read almost like a prose poem.

Maybe not your cup of tea, but I've been getting into Aldous Huxley lately. I would suggest two novels: _Crome Yellow_ followed by _Point Counter Point_ as my best reads of 2022.
