The Think Break Explained

Aside from the Amen break, the 'Think' break is possibly the most famous sampled drum break in history. Sampled from Lyn Collins' 'Think (About It)', the Think break has been sampled and used in countless tracks. Here's a quick breakdown.

My favourite song that uses the Think break is tied between Bubble Skunker by Mr. Bill & kLL sMTH and जलाना (Jalaana) by Culprate. Bubble Skunker has a hypnotic groove, but Jalaana is just...its own thing entirely.

I never knew what it was called, but I’ve heard it on what feels like hundreds of tracks. My first exposure to it wasn’t even music but as a sound effect in the SNES game: The Blues Brothers in 1993

The best two tracks that used Think (About it) drums for me are by the same group. Tuff Crew killed it on "My Part Of Town" and "Hittin' Hard Ball" which was where Jonny L took it from to use on "Hurt You So". Producer Tone Love chopped the break.up so creatively.
