It's partly about values in that his investments are to a large degree social investments and they have a repercussion for a community and come from a place in the past where community mattered more. The success of an investment was tied to the care for others. Crypto doesn't seem like that at all and I can see the correlation with gold, although gold does have some uses for sure.

I can use my fiat dollars to buy bonds which pay interest. Result: I have less dollars short term and now own bonds instead. I presume that one could use crypto to buy bonds which pay interest. Result: I have less crypto and have bonds instead. If that were my goal, then I'd skip the crypto and just get the bonds. As he said, I can use fiat currency to buy productive assets or just stare at them; the value is in the productive assets that any currency can buy, be it crypto, fiat or whatever. He does not make money by holding onto fiat cash, he invests it in productivity.

a little history... gold was fine currency when production was relatively stable, so you had no economic growth and no inflation... many people dont know this but economic growth is new thing... gold was slowing the economy (because deflation is strangling the economy) in the modern times and fiat came in but gold was historically valuabe and its even used in many industries now... so no, not worthless but historical value is still resonating in people very much
