Controversial opinion: PSU makers should not be allowed to do this
Either settle on consistent and sane pin layouts or get bent

Well at least EVGA show some semblance of responsibility

You missed the part where EVGA tried to get the guy to commit fraud by submitting warranty claims for all the drives.

There are two problems here: One, there is no standard for the PSU end of modular cables, and two, EVGA (like most brands) farms out their PSU manufacturing to different companies, and those companies do not use the same pinouts, even when two companies are making the same model drive.

I always go by the 3 2 1 rule.

3 copies across 2 types of media with 1 offsite.

Backups, backups, backups. This person did good with the cloud storage and I learned to not swap around modular cables!... They really need a standard for them, though.

I'm inclined to agree with these guys there's no reason we can't have a universal power supply layout. We may have to break it into a few different power tiers but the overall layout could be made constant.

I had the same thing happen to me(with much less storage) about a year ago and I've seen others report the exact same. Evga first tried to get me to commit fraud by making claims with the manufacturers before admitting the mistake and compensating me.

Decade worth of my artwork and photography got poofed because my hdd shit itself. My dumbass was procrastinating backing them up or posting them so now i have to start my portfolio over.😌

I didn't lose anything critical, but ive had this exact thing happen when upgrading my rig's PSU. In that instance it was entirely my fault for trying to take the easy way and not change the cables though. It wasn't even the same manufacturer, I just assumed that it was a standardized pinout because it's a standard connector.

This is why i love evga, they ducked up, admitted it, and offered to fix it. Honestly one of the best tech companies out there.

just bc you fry your hard drive NEVER means you data is gone. It's never gone bruv.

Nice to see that they're willing to pay him back

CDs, USBs, backups stored on all of these.

I also connect everything, all possible hard drives too, when powering up a modified system. It is necessary for the first boot...

I have recently experienced the pain of losing data, and I don't even know what caused it (the drive lost the filesystem type and became unuable until I formatted it). Thankfully most of the stuff on it was just my game library, but I also lost some stuff that I am not going to be able to get back easily.

Well, it was so many terabytes of data as well as multiple devices connecting them all together so I think no less than 40 billion should cover the price you know plus additional fees and damages as the medical fees for covering grief and counseling over such a vast loss can be expensive

Until they define a standard for modular PSUs, i'll stay on non-modulars. I'm not an airflow freak nor care much about cable management besides interferences.
