A full unabridged audiobook of the classic gothic story, "The Sphinx", by Edgar Allan Poe - complete with sounds and visuals.

The story, first published in 1849, concerns a man who decides to visit a relative living near the Hudson River, north of New York City, during a cholera epidemic. An outbreak occurred during the summer of 1832. One day, the man is reading a book near the window when he glances up from the pages of his novel to see a ghastly sight on a distant hill at the edge of the far side of the river. There is an enormous creature climbing down the embankment!

Read by Elliot Fitzpatrick.

An overlooked (at least by me) gem.
Don't make a mountain out of a molehill and the other way around. In German it is even closer to the story: don't make an elephant out of a mosquito.
Almost 200 years later this proverb is more valid than ever. The narrator's relative saves the narrator twice; from cholera and from mis-interpretation.

I’m currently reading short stories for Poe to improve my English, and I wanted to read that one today. I find it much easier to focus on the text with your narration ! It helps me a lot to understand the story better. Thank you so much ! 🫶🏻
