Bug Out Bag 2021 - Hazard 4 Plan B 17 Bug Out Bag

I grabbed the Hazard 4 Plan B 17 sling bag on sale from Amazon. This is a great bag that can hold a good amount of bug out gear or EDC gear. I used mine as a Bug Out Bag but it would make a perfect every day carry bag as well.

I like the simplicity and thoughtfulness of your bag. Everything was well considered. I don't recall seeing a compass or headlamp/ flashlight. But I sure they have since benn added. Excellent job!

Nice. That bag was a great deal. I'm sure looking forward to the review on it! You got everything there for the main survival needs in a small compact size. The mechanics gloves are a good idea, I carry leather work gloves and a pair of nitrile coated cheap ones. I also have a really thin pair of cotton gloves that can go inside the other gloves as an extra layer for the really cold winter days. I recently ordered the Ironclad Heavy Duty gloves to try from Amazon and they were really small for an XL. The hand fit okay but the fingers were so tight I could not close my grip and had to return them. I often wonder if the dollar store or Home Depot cheap leather work gloves are just as durable. I wanted to try the Ironclad since they had a rubber knuckle protector. I like seeing those fixed blades in kits. Nothing worse than going for a folder and either breaking it in use or wasting a few seconds if your under attack deploying. I carry a folding knife as EDC some times but I prefer a fixed blade with full tang in my kits ready with a sheath for my belt.

You’re good to get a compass, and don’t forget to include a local map. The planned route may be compromised, and you would need an alternate way to get where you’re going.

One of my many “Bug-out/Get -home” bags is the SOG Ninja. It’s very sturdy, and comfortable to carry.
I have a Maxpedition sling bag, but I prefer a regular backpack style. So it is intended for anyone who might need a kit when the spit hits the spam. 😉

I’m always thinking long term, so my bags always have a flint and steel kit, and a fishing kit. Also good to have a dynamo radio. In case it takes longer than planned to get where you’re going, you can keep up with the situational changes.

I’m looking forward to seeing the progression of this kit.

I own the original Plan B, without the hard shell. Love it!! Here's a tip. When you open the main compartment, open the zippers at the top about three inches, slip your fingers into the opening and pull. It opens up in one swoop. (Make sure you undo the compression straps first!!) It's made for that. Awesome setup. If there was one upgrade to do next, the main blade. I like 1095 steel. Easy to maintain, relatively inexpensive and tough as nails. My go to is ESEE. Best beater knife for the money. You'll dish out $100 for an ESEE 4, so not cheap...but you can beat it till you're blue in the face. No questions Lifetime Warranty. Check them out. Awesome selection. Sling bags will tired you out and dig into your shoulder.
I prefer saving money for the gear that'll hold up for multiple days. When SHTF you won't know if the situation or threats will be for 3 days or a week/s.
I live in my RV 24/7 and sell things online, i make enough to get by and save a little extra every now and then, since I'm not married or have children. Life is tuff and now with many out of a job and lost their homes or apartments, on lockdowns that for many is already SHTF situation.

great little starter! i recommend a small fiskar x5 axe for chopping wood. you can attach it on the outside

I have the Plan B and C and i prefer the C . I found sling bags are easy to overload and can get uncomfortable quick. Took a Vanquest Javelin to disney and still regret it. Also due to the capacity its more an EDC/ Get home bag vs bug out . I use it the Plan C for day hikes sometimes and pair it up with Ribz front pack .

Very nice. I think you have most of the bases covered. I would add some cash in small bills, and a silcock key. Maybe some personal hygiene items (a small travel toothbrush and toothpaste).

It’s a nice hazard 4 bag for short term. Sometimes a sling can feel uncomfortable if heavy. Try working towards a 2nd front or patrol pack

Keep water in that bottle. You don't want to be stuck in an emergency with an empty water bottle. Filter is good to have but it is very hard to get water during an actual urban emergency.

How would you feel about carrying 2 of those same bags? So to double the volume and carrying capacity in a true bugout/evac situation. Would you think 2, one on each side could be a viable and efficient traveling approach in replacement of say 1 large backpack?
