That is a cool NLF. The trunk on it is very unique. Looks really cool. Nice pruning on it.

WLF, really cool. I wonder if you could start one of the cuttings for a mini WLF. That would be cool.

Hibiscus, yes. Mine slept all winter and died back. I cut it to I hit green on the trunk and in July it came back to life.

Hibiscus is different but nice. They do backbud nicely. You are right, Dave. That was the story of my dwarf Pomegranate. Slept for over 8 months and then came back to life. Hoping Jays tree he bought me will back bud and leaf out in the spring of next year.

Don't give up on the forest of ten. If you cut back to green, seal it with the lipstick to conserve the moisture in the branch and trunk. Just a little dab. Might help in keeping it alive.

I wonder if you could start a cutting from the Barberry for a thimble bonsai. Might be worth a try.

A cup of tea after all that work is well deserved. Now to find your favorite chair, Dave and relax with a good book and the cup of tea.

Daggum, that barberry is looking great! I was thinking “put the scissors down, Dave”. But I’m glad you didn’t.

Enjoyed the failure. I agree we need to see more examples of failures. It helps us (the viewers) realize that it is a learning experience when our trees die! My forest is toast as well. Pretty sure my tray was too shallow. The second lesson I learned was don't leave your plants on the ground- blasted baby bunnies will try and taste everything! Yep, the furry critters stripped about 8 of my larch seedlings!

Don’t mean to preach to the choir but I have had fair luck resurrecting deciduous trees which were toast just by moistening the soil, covering with a clear plastic bag with a few ventilation holes punched in and keeping the tree in indirect light for at least 2 weeks. Good luck with the zelkovas, loved the landscaping.

Hi Dave, I’m going to be in Minneapolis area tomorrow. Are there any Bonsai Nurseries you recommend visiting? I’m staying in Brooklyn Park
