Corfu is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea known for its historic monuments, spectacular sandy beaches, beautiful landscapes, Mediterranean climate, and rich cultural heritage.

Corfu's urban architecture influence derives from Venice. The island also served as a refuge for Greek scholars, and in 1732, it became the home of the first academy of modern Greece. The island's culture absorbed Venetian influence in a variety of ways; its local cuisine took in such elements and today's Corfiot cooking includes Venetian delicacies and recipes: "Pastitsada", deriving from the Venetian "Pastissada" and the most popular dish in the island of Corfu, "Sofrito", "Strapatsada", "Savoro", "Bianco" and "Mandolato".

Corfu has an international airport and is also connected by ferry to a few islands, the mainland, and Italy.
