That is my biggest fear right now that I am steps away from graduating, being stuck in a routine of not finding a job or once I do, being in the 9-5 cycle.

Also to add: Don't accept every job. You might be embarrassed or ashamed of a project you work on if the voice work is for something degrading.

I completely feel you on the ones where the client feels sketchy. Had one I turned down, where they advertised it as just a voice acting gig - then also wanted every VA to do their own audio mixing, so that they didn't have to pay an editor. Walked out real fast on that one.

Wow Joe, this video truly blew me away, was on the fence about joining your academy but after this there is no doubt in my mind! I can see you're not just an incredible educator for Voice Acting and business but also work in general and in your life philosophies, thanks so much for this!

Exceptional points were made. I'm just as in the dark as the average person on what happens behind the mic. But watching your recent uploads these past few days has been truly informative.

I subscribed because you voiced Wriothesley and he's my favorite character in Genshin. But now, I'm loving how you are as a person as well. Awesome job, Your Grace!

I just finished re-evaluating my rates—and deciding that I'm going to start taking weekends off for myself—as of this week and OF COURSE you pop up on my feed to reaffirm everything. KISMET JOE STRIKES AGAIN!

I typically audition once or twice a month with maybe four to five roles to audition for. It takes alot of time to look for something you want to audition for and uhhh... setup your equipment and stuff. Generally I restrict these audtions within the first week of the month to the third week.

I'm fine doing it part-time while developing my other skills, chilling out, just going to work.

A quote from a friend I volunteer for sometimes, "You do you.".

An advice my dad always gave me even to this day; If something sounds too good to be true, it's probably not.

Thank you, Joe! I started a new career right as you launched the Voice Acting Academy. I've continued to receive your emails and watch the videos because a lot of the advice is applicable as well.

Joe, you are truly You are the few who nurtures to grow the (voice acting) community than trying to keep it gate-locked for less competition. Be and stay blessed in all you do💛✨️

I turned down my first real offer for Voice Over job recently because it was AI training contract 1 year of using my voice for 50$

Nowhere near a voice actor, but this all checks out from my experience as a freelance developer.

There are so many people out there who try to lowball you based on "the security of guaranteed work" offering long contracts at very low rates.

But I knew that in the time I worked their guaranteed 500 hours at $30/hr, I could find several jobs that paid me $80/hr, and earn the same money while busting my butt way less.

It was worth it to spend more time searching out better paying work

This is honestly excellent advice in general for the current job market. I've had to finally train myself to not feel like an idiot for turning down or eventually quitting jobs that were mentally taxing to the point of panic attacks, so... Thank you for giving a voice to this, I think so many people getting into any market need to understand their worth in all of this. We are all human, it's ok to act and react in a human manner.

Family is the most important 😢
I lost my parents forever following my work ...
I am regret now .. and even lost my all talented even as a voice actor my voice no longer can came out as same as before
Sometime I think why we stress ourselves for others in work, we did that to make them happy I gain money and spend for them .. but I end up lost interest after they gone .. 😢😢 nothing like before

Thanks for the video you said words very important for next generation as for me it's not too late hopefully

I know this is a hypothetical but lets say you nail a role somehow with fromsoft. Is the stress worth it, working with a series known for their spectacular voice acting and games? Im interested in the lines of should you take a role for the sake of it or realize you aren't ready?

Don't you technically have two jobs doing both the voice acting website/Academy stuff and gigs? Seems easier for you to say no then a greehorn newbie with thier first foot in the door
