Today i said F it and i left my house without checking my stove (normallyi have to check a few times. Sometimes I even take pictures to reassure myself later). HUGE progress for me. I just can't stand living in fear anymore!

OCD is so so so hard. Exposures help but I keep falling for old patterns.

I notice I just keep trading one OCD obsession for another. I'm so thankful for your channel. I just subscribed ;-)

This technique is very helpful. In fact, HUGE and life changing for me...A friend suggested exposure therapy a few years ago. I began knocking over things on purpose...and just LEAVING them on the floor.... piles of perfectly folded laundry, some coins from the dresser top...the results can enormous using small/safe items like the above to start (yes, I thought something bad would happen, but I just knocked stuff over anyway and really analyzed how it made me feel, and if anything bad DID happen...which it did not). Over the years, these small actions have reduced my OCD to living in downright sloppiness at times...and I LOVE this FREED and messy version of me now!

Because my OCD isn’t about germs or checking or washing hands, every therapist has blamed my constant intrusive thoughts on PTSD because my compulsions are productive and creative. The more videos I watch of yours, I realize it’s all OCD and I don’t feel so insane and now I have tools. Thank you.

Exposure therapy has helped me deal with OCD. I explain to people its not about curing OCD but dealing with being uncomfortable and dealing with it. The anxiety will decrease.

Nathan, Love your videos. I suffer from OCD. I also attend the OCD and Anxiety treatment center locally that uses ERP. I have to say you are amazing. Keep the videos up!!... I'm getting old or i'd go to college and get a degree in social work so i can become a therapist as well. /sigh...

So often I do just sit there without figuring it out but then I’m just sitting with anxiety not understanding why I’m so anxious for long periods. It just seems like nothing changes for hours sometimes.

be careful, those answers may or may not become a new compulsion! and this is the perception of the world, you will no longer know anything! will lead to existential crises ocd. carefully

For 20 and some odd years I had a phobia of the toilet. I couldn’t go into the bathroom with my eyes open. This was so I’d avoid looking at it. I read this ocd book and followed the steps to exposing myself to it. My anxiety was high, but little by little I kept doing it. Now it’s gone completely. The only thing is that it’s been replaced with another phobia.
I want to know how i can stop it being replaced with something else.

I have my appointment with my therapist today. I've been trying to do exposures and since the thing is about people online, it involves me being on my pc and forcing myself to watch videos of people that makes me uncomfortable. Maybe i keep doing the compulsion because I instantly clear my history afterwards so i'll talk to my therapist about it. I've forced myself to do other things like join groups that gave me my panic attacks, but with other situations its just a day and night cycle.
