How to press flowers between glass - DIY Pressed Flower Wall Art

When we take from nature, we have a responsibility to consume thoughtfully, with sustainability and respect in mind. Most importantly, recognizing the difference between what we need and want.

Here are a few rules I follow when foraging for flowers:
1. I do not recommend picking wildflowers if you live in a populated area - it's so important to leave these plants to the bees, insects, and animals. A great alternative is to go to a nursery and buy some flowers in bloom, then you can enjoy them in the future.
2. If you do go out to forage flowers, go somewhere that there is very little or no human traffic. I go to an isolated mountain slope where few, if any, other people go. That way you can ensure the area will no be affected by many people picking flowers.
3. When picking flowers outdoors, pick only one bloom per plant and forage in a large area. This will ensure that no single patch will be affected.
4. Most important: thank nature for her bounty, she is so generous with her gifts of plants and flowers - we must always take time to appreciate every single flower.

I’ve been watching you a few years, and you have at 59 years old inspired me to pick beautiful bits of nature around my land. My mother who’s passed years ago used to press and dry flowers for her shadow boxes she’d sell. She’d gather little dried cones, seed pods, grasses and flowers, and my dad would cut the wood, stain it, cover her works of art with glass, and leather strips with tacks at the corners. This was her way to bring in some extra income as full time mom. She was beautiful, and her work was sold at art shows around Southern California in the 70’s. I miss her delicate creativity and this so reminds me of her❤. I’m going to start creating beauty myself as a way to honor her.

When I look at the beautiful clouds covering the mountains in the morning and the sunshine passing through the veil of clouds . I say it's a mysterious beauty. That’s beautiful. When I was a teen, we’d dry flowers onto clear tape and roll over the tape on top and make little clear bookmarks. You can then punch a hole and put yarn for the outside.
