Quayshawn Spencer is the Robert S. Blank Presidential Associate Professor of Philosophy and Undergraduate Chair at the University of Pennsylvania.

Closer To Truth, hosted by Robert Lawrence Kuhn and directed by Peter Getzels, presents the world’s greatest thinkers exploring humanity’s deepest questions. Discover fundamental issues of existence. Before this speck of consciousness arose I had no memories of suffering therefore I have no reason to think it differently when it expires

One of my sister is able to see souls wonderings around in the neighborhood for few days when a person died, according to her, soul looks like dove white and see through, it contain no face but only resembles shape of the given person who has passed away, this phenomena happens just for a day or two after one passed away.
I wouldn't believe it, if it is told by some strangers, I had to believe I know my sister wouldn't make it for nothing.
Her initial seeing experience was frightening to her and after a while she got used to it, she says.

If we cannot define what consciousness itself actually is, as this channel time after time shows we can't, how can we possibly describe or understand when this consciousness "dies", if indeed it ever does?

We all get to experience something similar to death and that is sleep

There is nothing fundamentally more mysterious about the death of others than, say, the disintegration of an old engine. The paradoxes enter only when one tries to reason about his/her own death. The Ground State of Blue (Blogger) -- but only if you venture going down that rabbit hole.

"Philosophy of Biological Death?"

Bilogical Death is nothing to be so feared about because it only affects your temporary physical body but NOT your immortal soul that is NOT physical, that has no DNA, has no cells, has no tissues to die, to rot, or to disintegrate.. Your soul is your true being that remains intact and survives forever...

... and the reason why your spiritual existence is eternal because your soul is a free split of the Holy Spirit who has no beginning and no end...

... what you should be concerned about is your soul's eternal fate that solely relies on what you had freely chosen to believe, or not believe, regarding the existence of a loving Creator or GOD, before your physical death...

..if you had chosen to live a life with God's grace, then Heaven is where your soul belongs to live genuinely happy ever after...

..but if you had chosen to believe in Darwin's IGUANA as your Original Mama, ie., had chosen a life without God's grace, then your wish is your command.... your soul will end up in a cold dark empty state (hell) - an absence of God's blessings.... God can not force you Home because your soul is free...

If specks of consciousness are extended long periods of time they may develop difficulties of other another nature, they don’t seem to be designed for it

Explain to me how I die if all the atoms that make me are in superposition throughout the universe, decay into photons, loop around through another universe made of anti-matter, then back to the big bang, . 13 billions later zip I'm back typing this at a computer. I want a way out. This is worse than death.

I was dead for billions of years before I was born, and it didn't bother me a bit.

"I don't fear death. I just don't want to be there when it happens".---Woody Allen. No one really fears death, since it cannot be experienced. What they fear is dying, a separate issue. Have no fear, ladies and gents. David Hume said on his deathbed, "I did not fret over my first oblivion before I was born. Why should I fear the second?".

In the time and space reality, everything, evey existence has expiry date. So, nothing to be worried about, death is maturity, the fulfilment of life. As our poet assured: Eternity will hang heavy upon our shoulder, hence, is a welcoming relief after full living.
