I agree. ALL my U.S. copies (UNI to MCA Blue Rainbow) have “Gonna” on the inner sleeve and labels, but “Going” on the back cover/flap. None of my UK DJMs have “Gonna” anywhere (so, now I have something to hunt for!). I do have a Spanish DJM (DJL-7.006) copy (gatefold, no flap) that has “Going” on the title panels that would have been on the flap, and “Gonna” on the inner sleeve title. The record label has “Going”

My UK cassette has “Going” in all locations. I believe my old MCA cassette had “Gonna” in all locations, but it was eaten and destroyed by my car’s cassette player years ago!

That German cassette does look like an Ed Caraeff photo, but is likely from a different session since Elton is clean-shaven. That cassette is difficult to listen to as the running order flips “Rocket Man” and “Mona Lisas” (fortunately I grew up on 8-tracks and am flexible in my listening order—and track changes mid-song!).

There is the infamous (and impossible to find) “Mamma Can’t Buy You Love” 45 (XPRES 20) that misspelled “Mama” and was withdrawn very quickly (to be replaced by “Victim of Love” for a double insult). I’ll have to think about misspellings on releases in English-speaking territories. Non-English territory misspellings are likely more common.

New Zealand 7" b side of Candle In The Wind was titled Bebby & The Jets.instead of Bennie/Benny & The Jets.
Also b side of Crocidile Rock was titled Elberberry Wine instead of Elderberry Winr.

All my Canadian and US copies, Uni and MCA (up to blue rainbow), show the same pattern: "Going to" on the back sleeve but "Gonna" on the labels and gatefold. My UK DJM copies (all by Pye) are "Going to" in every location except my early A2/B2 copy, which says "Gonna" inside the gatefold. Curiously, that copy has a conspicuously large tab on the sleeve buckle. I'm wondering if that is a really early copy that was later corrected because other A2/B2 copies with the wallet sleeve show "Going to" in every location but the sleeve buckle tab is smaller.

Update to U.S. issues. I was concentrating so much on “Gonna” that I missed another anomaly on all my UNI and MCA issues. In addition to using “Gonna” on all inner sleeve lyrics, they drop the “I”, so it is printed as “Think I’m Gonna Kill Myself”. The record labels add back the “I”, but use “Gonna”. Therefore, all U.S. pressings have this title printed 3 different ways!

Also, I did not catch the “hint” you provided. The U.S. copies would be easy to obtain, but the postage will eat you alive.
